August 2025 updates – Kamia Kennels have been actively watching and waiting for the updates on hunting, tracking and working with dogs in the hunt.
The Number One Bear line of dogs in North America as well as the absolute best Moose tracking and hunting lines of dogs in the world are found at our preservation facility in Alberta Canada. Our Elkhounds, Norwegian Elkhounds, Jamthunds or Swedish Elkhounds and our Full Blood Elkhounds all have brand new regulated status now.
If you wish to utilize the absolute best skill in tracking game, our Elkhounds are superior to all others.
Leashed Tracking is now completely legal in Alberta of wounded big game. This is a huge breakthrough finally in common sense by the regulation body as finally we can utilize the superior tracking and skills of the Elkhound to recover wounded big Game. Moose, Deer, Elk, all can be tracked now.
Here is the deal breakdown: You have to shoot before you release the dog, which makes sense of course. If the shot is not fatal, the Kamia Kennels Elkhounds will lead you right to the wounded game. You can securely find and retrieve humanely all wounded game. Finally!

Bear Hunting for Black Bears in Certain Zones is now allowed and our Bear Hunting Elkhounds are the best in the world. No single breeder anywhere in the world has more lines of Preservation hunting full instinct rich Elkhounds than us. This means in some areas you can now tree the bear, track the bear, with the Elkhound. You can use a Bear Lineage Norwegian Elkhound, or if you prefer the phenomenal Bear lines of our Jamthunds and finally, the best of all types, hunt bear with our Full Bloods.
You need to talk to us about our bear lines. There are no better bear lines anywhere than these at our facility in Northern Alberta.
Remember, off leash use is still illegal outside designated areas, so be sure you know the zones that allow for off leash tracking and hunting, treeing, and such.
You can NOT chase or bay big game yet with dogs. They will get to that eventually, but it’s not here yet. Moose, Deer and Elk all have to be “Tracked” after shooting, not before. Remember that.
Our lines are some of the very few in the world that are Champion stock from “Leashed” hunting Champions. So our lines are geared and instinctively bred for this new regulation for decades. Full instincts to find game wounded on “LEASH”. Go figure right? We all know our dogs are the best but the fact we have the full lineage of “Leash Hunting” lines is amazing to fit this new hunting regulation.

Everyone knows our dogs are full Instinct rich Elkhounds. Bred for work, this exact work. Now full authorization for the hunters has arrived and they can fully retrieve all Big Game that might have been lost potentially. Further the true safety of the hunter is now ensured.
Skinning out Big Game in bear country has always been a huge concern for hunters. By having this new regulation, now the hunter has the Elkhound with him to retrieve and prepare the carcass and butcher and field dress. The dog is fully capable of watching his back, keeping him safe from bears and adds incredible safety to the big game hunter. These new regulations allow the dog to be with the hunter at all times, only on lead of course, but can be used after to track on lead to big game and stay to process.
This is life saving, truly an incredible update for the hunters.
