🏔️ Tammy and the boys and Grandma, epic adventure!
At Kamia Kennels, the process of selecting a pup is not a transaction — it’s an experience. Years ago, Tammy and her family came to meet the female Elkhounds that shaped Thyra’s genetics. They wanted a really bonding pup, an Elkhound that could mesh right into the family and lifestyle that they had. They didn’t live that far so I suggested we take a bunch of the Norwegian Elkhounds, aunts and relatives of young soon to be Thyra and go snowshoeing.
We snowshoed and cross‑country skied up the mountain together, surrounded by the pack that represented the lineage of Thyra. The boys were thrilled, the grandmother observed every detail, and the family’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive. They were inspecting the dogs as a family, seeing firsthand the temperament, instinct, and structure that define Kamia’s breeding philosophy.
As a breeder it’s very cool to see how the energy of the young boys fit my dogs so perfectly, as of course did Tammy and Grandma. The dogs are the visual indicator of how well they are matched, it’s PERFECT!
🐕 The Result — Seven Years Later
Tammy recently sent an update: Thyra is now seven years old and thriving. She’s happiest on walks in the woods, always ready for adventure, and continues to embody the traits that make Kamia Elkhounds so special. Tammy wrote:
“She’s 7 now and is doing great. She’s always up for an adventure and is her happiest on a walk in the woods. We’ve also run into other Elkhounds from Kamia in our travels – I met someone from Manitoba with their dog who is about the same age in Invermere earlier this year. Your dogs are truly wonderful and loved by their families.”
This feedback is the essence of what Kamia strives for — pups that grow into lifelong companions, perfectly matched to their families.
