You can count on your Kamia Kennels Elkhound in literally the most extreme conditions you can or will face. We are not just preserving the genetics, the diversity, but the actual ability to face the real world extreme conditions these dogs were bred for.

Our program is one of the most unique in North America. We not only focus our life efforts on preservation but we live in real world conditions and work the dogs in extreme situations and they live in it.

-35 and a cold wind chill, felt like -50 and Ark and Revna are mating!

No kidding, serious capabilities, no little designer dogs out here, haha. These are hard core extreme winter dogs.

Shelters are getting snowed right in, it’s great insulation on the roof of their individual shelters. Most snow we have seen up this way in the last 20 years. Tons of days -25 to -35. Some brutal winds. Drifting snow.

I snowshoe all around the kennel, some days Pulling a sled of meat and bones in, some days many trips. Rugged country!

The Two Full Blood females, they love the conditions too. First winter for them. They are tough as nails!

All the Kamia Kennels Elkhounds are fat and have great coats. They handle these conditions like nothing. Preservation breeding is not for the faint of heart. Dogs and man have to be rugged. If I wasn’t able to test the dogs, work them, live with them, spend the day in the conditions there is no way you could say with the confidence I have: “These are the true working Elkhounds!”.

They rebreed in these conditions. Revna and Ark just mated up on the 19th of December, 2025. An exceptional Full Blood litter coming! Can you believe the pups out of those two, Wow!

We currently have the ARCO and Vaeda litter on the ground down at Linda’s. 8 incredible pups. Varja has her 5 butterballs down in Montana also, she was mated to the incredible Odin!
