Why get a Preservation Bloodline Elkhound

The Preservation bloodline Elkhounds are full of the ancient instinctive qualities that have made the Elkhound popular and so desired by outdoor enthusiasts and families for centuries.

Instinct Preservation Provides Predictability

Predictable behavior in genetic bloodlines of Elkhounds with the Kamia Kennels Preservation Elkhounds

Instincts are what make the behavior so predictable in Elkhounds. Preservation lines are like peas in a pod, all pretty much identical in traits and behaviors because the instincts are there, preserved, ready to be in use.

Genetic lineages also vastly improve the predictability of the dogs behavior. If the exact same mating has produced a litter four years earlier, the same parents, pups from that litter are already 4 years old. We know how they behave, how they act. It’s truly amazing to see 4 or five litters of the exact same pups, sometimes 30 plus pups over the range of the preservation matings, all dogs act, behave and literally respond to commands identical.

Genetic lines in preservation bloodlines are the BEST handler focus lines. If the bloodline is generation after generation we can literally see hundreds of Elkhounds exhibiting the exact same behavior. It’s a fascinating thing.

I can bring a pup back to visit me, they can be gone for 6 or 7 years with a different handler, come back for a visit and they respond, act, behave do the precise behavior that the parents did, the grandparents did and the great grandparents. This is even when I have not seen the pup/dog for 7 years. But because of the Instincts and all genetic material combined the same, I get exactly the same behavior. Might take a minute or two to acclimatize them to me, but within literally minutes they are like every single dog I had raised in that genetic line. Respond the same, act, listen, perform, everything the same.

This is what the predictable results of preservation breeding for instinct preservation and genetic preservation does.

You can literally go back and watch a video of a group of pups from 5 generations back, decades ago, then watch a video today of the same genetic by decades later. They are identical in behavior, response, action, heck they even look identical, when they are from mated pairs. So you can’t tell them apart.

I have many clients that have 10 year old Elkhounds that get a pup from a brother, or a sister, 10 years later, after 1 year when the pup grows to be same size, you hardly can tell them apart. They turn their heads the same, look the same, act, behave, it’s truly remarkable.

This precise predictable nature, the absolute solid way in which instincts control the thoughts and actions is what makes preservation dogs so unique and so well suited to families with active lifestyle.

Dog training as such is not required really to any degree. Handler focused preservation lines are going to do exactly what they are supposed to do, regardless of your skill level with dogs. The dogs have these behaviors locked in through instincts. So there is no frustration with training, no long years of working the pup to get it to do things, heck it will do them first time out in the bush, 8 weeks old. It’s going to be a remarkable Elkhound from the beginning.

When you rely on Preservation Instincts they are already in the dog. From conception. You don’t need to “Train it in”. This is the value that Preservation bloodlines bring.

Other bloodlines have lost tons of instincts. They don’t have these incredible features anymore. Such a shame, but not my concern. I need to focus on preservation of my bloodlines and keep them working and expanding so as to have long term genetic preservation for decades to come.

People tell me each and every day, literally every day, they can not believe they can take the little pups and go out and the dog is flawless, the dog remains flawless year after year. Look at how many of my folks have 2, 3 and 4 of my dogs. If the dog was not flawless they would not have another after another.

We have currently planned preservation litters with Silver Nessa and Karu, Tikka and Karu, Kessa and Teeko and Varja and Merle. We will be also have Jamthund litters and Fullblood litters this summer.

My absolutely stunning beauty Vienna will be bringing out a Full Blood litter. This is going to be a Preservation milestone for certain as this is the first Posso daughter. There are more great litters.

So please, stay tuned. Michael and Sarah have things well in hand up in Athabasca, Linda is focused on Tikka in Montana, and the other great co-breeders are doing wonderful things as well.

Below is the stunning example I mentioned, Bosco, ten years the Elder to Ruhne, but as Ruhne is a son of Bosco’s younger brother they look, act and behave and respond identically.
