One of the most powerful tools in our entire restoration system is what we call the reverse genetic concept. This is something almost no breeder can use, because it requires:
- a large enough kennel
- multiple generations on site
- mature dogs still intact and contributing
- long-term observation
- the ability to step backward and forward in the lineage
- the discipline to wait years before drawing conclusions
We use reverse genetics constantly. It is one of the reasons our predictions are so accurate and why our architecture remains intact.
Those two females above, they hold the genetic key to our upcoming litters. GAEDA is shown at left, Kamp at right. GAEDA is the mother of Moki. Kamp is the Great Grandmother of Riatta.
Below is shown Moki and Riatta.
How reverse genetics works in our program
Because we have the dogs, the space, the time, and the maturity, we can:
- take a genetic combination
- watch the pups for 5–7 years
- evaluate the architecture
- then recreate the same combination later in life
- or reverse the combination (male lineage ↔ female lineage)
- and know almost exactly what is coming
This is only possible because our dogs live long, stay intact, and remain behaviourally and structurally sound into senior years.
The Odin × Varja Litter — A Perfect Example
Odin is the son of a Gaeda Daughter, Vida × Leif.
This means we already know exactly what the Gaeda–Leif combination produces:
- ancient working architecture from Gaeda
- performance show-line structure from Leif
- stability
- intelligence
- correct instincts
- longevity
It is one of the most successful genetic matches we have ever used.
Magnum is shown below, this is one of the sons from the Odin and Varja litter, he is in our stewardship program with Adam. His brother Krieger is also there.
Remember those two females at the top, they anchor the Odin / Varja like as well.
Now, because of reverse genetics, we get to see this combination again, but in reverse:
Riatta (daughter of Leif) × Moki (son of Gaeda)
Same genetic material. Same architecture. Only reversed. Seven years later.
The pups from the Varja litter (Odin × Varja) are almost exactly what will be coming from the Riatta litter — because the genetic ingredients are identical, just flipped.
Why Varja was the perfect bridge
Varja allowed us to step back one generation while still advancing many years in time.
She is the sister to Luna. She is the daughter of Tekla. She is the granddaughter of Kamp.
By using Varja, we were able to:
- step back a generation
- yet move forward seven years
- and still maintain the exact architecture we needed
This is the kind of genetic precision only a mature, multi-line kennel can achieve.
Vaeda’s Role — Another Reverse Genetic Anchor
Vaeda has contributed heavily to the Full Blood restoration because she passes instincts and behavioural genetics flawlessly. Vaeda is the sibling to Odin.
By watching Vaeda’s pups, we see the exact combination of:
- Leif
- Gaeda
- Vida (daughter of Gaeda)
This gives us a second, independent confirmation of the same architecture. Leif is the father to Riatta. Leif is also the father of Vaeda, and of Odin.
Reverse genetics lets us see the same combination from multiple angles, across multiple generations, and across multiple mature dogs.
Tekla’s Line — Reverse Genetics Across Generations
Tekla is the grandmother of Riatta. She is also the mother of Varja. And she produced Loki with Leif.
Loki then mates with Vida (daughter of Gaeda).
This yields the exact same genetic combination — Leif × Gaeda — but in a different variation.
And what does it produce?
- Vana — mentor-quality, one of the best females ever produced
- Tucker — the famous bear dog who works with Grizzlies
This is reverse genetics in action: same architecture, different pathway, same outcome.
Why Reverse Genetics Works Only in a Mature Program
Reverse genetics requires:
- old males
- old females
- intact architecture
- long-term observation
- multi-line structure
- the ability to step backward and forward in the lineage
- the discipline to wait years before making decisions
This is why we can look at Riatta × Moki and already know — with near certainty — what is coming.
We have seen this genetic combination:
- forward
- backward
- sideways
- through daughters
- through sons
- through granddaughters
- through grandsons
We have watched it for over a decade.
Reverse genetics is not theory. It is lived evidence.
And it is one of the reasons our restoration architecture is the most accurate and stable in North America
We have seen this “Genetic Set” in multiple scenarios. One of the spectacular early versions was the father of Moki, he was Jaegar and he was mated to Tekla’s mother. This yielded some of the most amazing pups, I’ll highlight one here, Storm. So again, we know the combinations of this genetic. This is what is coming.
Another of this combination at a later litter, showing the exact combination of genetics, Moki’s Dad combined with Riatta’s Great Grandmother, this is one of the famous pups of that combination, Rigel. An incredible male. That is how we can predict these outstanding pups. We know this genetic many directions.
You have all seen the incredible Dagr and Syn, as you know, that is the same genetic as we are discussing here. Both Dagr and Syn are GAEDA, incredible dogs. Dagr is going to be having a litter soon at close to 10 years old, Syn is 11 and still hiking hard in the mountains.
Another combination is Jaegar and GAEDA, their son BANE, still hiking Utah for a decade +.
The incredible genetic background of this Moki / Riatta combination is truly astounding. Considering the two male anchors in this I have hardly even touched on yet! Jaegar is Moki’s dad and Leif is Riatta’s.
