The original Elghund dogs were often referred to as Norrland dogs as the region they thrived in was renowned for producing extremely gifted hunting and hiking dogs. The breeders and hunters of the regions traveled great distances with these dogs and in some of the toughest terrain there is. These dogs accompanied the handler over all of it in every season and thrived in the outdoors.
Norrland Excellence - Teeko and Varja
Teeko and Varja are the ultimate in Norrland and Ravenstone bloodline preservation
Many decades ago a young dog was selected as a template for the Norwegian Elkhound Association, many do not know that the dog selected as a template was from the Norrland region and was selected because of his skills in hiking and hunting. He was not actually from “Norway” as such. But Sweden, few know this today yet.
Kamia Kennels is proud to produce Norrland descendants as we carry one of the few remaining links of genetics back to this native group of incredible dogs.
We also are one of the very few breeders remaining that focus on preservation of the famous Ravenstone bloodline. The Ravenstone Kennel was in the UK and ran for over 50 years, with tons of imports from Sweden and Norway, all extremely good hunting and hiking bloodlines. The contributions to preservation of these old ancient lineages by the Ravenstone Kennel can not be overstated, it was an incredible lifelong love of the great dogs and they shall be remembered by us.
We are blessed to have many magnificent dogs that flow down from the old lineages and two of these are Teeko and Varja. Teeko is a magnificent stud dog at Kamia Kennels, a big fella, 64lbs of muscle, solid and rugged, a true working Elkhound. Varja is a powerful compact European style female exactly like her ancestors from the rugged coasts of Norway inland forest of Finland and her powerful Ravenstone heritage.
Tekla is the mother to both Teeko and Varja. Varja is currently bred now to Pretty Boy Leif, she will have this litter in mid February 2024 and the heritage that has been preserved so many centuries will continue.
Teeko will be having some litters in the later summer/fall season and we are truly excited about his pups.
