Early Instinct, Maternal Intelligence, and the Norrland Sire Lineage in Motion
Kamia Kennels – Field Notes Series
There are moments in a preservation program when the architecture becomes visible — not on paper, not in pedigrees, but in the real world, in real terrain, with real dogs. This Field Notes entry captures one of those moments: two eight‑week‑old pups, Silver Nessa and Maple, working fully off leash in the high country, guided by their older sister Phoenix.
This is not training. This is inheritance.
THE LINEAGE BEHIND THE BEHAVIOR
Silver Nessa and Maple are daughters of Jaegar and Silver Nova, a pairing that represents the fusion of:
- the Norrland sire lineage descending from Takoda → Jaegar, and
- the emerging Maternal Dynasty of Silver Nova
This combination produces pups with:
- early maturity
- natural range instinct
- terrain awareness
- calm environmental reading
- strong return behavior
- and the unmistakable “working mind” of the northern Elkhound
Even at eight weeks, these traits are already visible.
PHOENIX — THE MENTOR, THE SISTER, THE INSTINCT CARRIER
Phoenix is also a daughter of Jaegar, but through Kamp, the legendary dam behind Tekla and Tuva. This makes Phoenix the older half‑sister of Silver Nessa and Maple — and on this outing, she steps naturally into the role of mentor.
What makes this moment remarkable is that Phoenix is not simply supervising pups. She is demonstrating instinctive behavior, and the pups are mirroring it:
- Phoenix ranges correctly
- the pups follow her arc
- Phoenix pauses and checks back
- the pups pause and check back
- Phoenix reads terrain
- the pups read her
This is how working Elkhounds have learned for thousands of years — not through commands, but through maternal and sibling mentorship.
THE TAKODA CONNECTION — A LINE THAT TEACHES
Both Phoenix and the pups trace directly back to Takoda, one of the most influential Norrland males in the Kamia program.
- Takoda → Jaegar → Silver Nessa & Maple
- Takoda → Jaegar → Phoenix
- Takoda → Vida → Vaeda → Nesse
This is where the story becomes even more compelling.
Recently, Phoenix was in Montana mentoring young Nesse, the Full Blood daughter of Vaeda. Nesse is Vida’s daughter, and Vida is the daughter of Takoda and GAEDA.
So Phoenix has now mentored:
- her younger sisters (Silver Nessa & Maple), and
- her distant cousin (Nesse), all tracing back to Takoda
Years later, the instinctive mentoring behavior remains intact. This is the hallmark of a true working lineage.
THE HIGH COUNTRY TEST — OFF LEASH, NO COMMANDS, PURE INSTINCT
The video footage from this outing shows the pups:
- navigating uneven terrain
- responding to the handler’s movement
- adjusting their range naturally
- following Phoenix’s lead
- returning without being called
- working with confidence and calmness
At eight weeks old, this is extraordinary — but not surprising. This is what happens when:
- the sire line is strong
- the maternal line is intelligent
- the environment is real
- and the instincts are preserved
This is the functional output of the Kamia preservation architecture.
THE FUTURE OF THE LINE
This outing is also the beginning of a much larger story.
Silver Nessa was later mated to Karu, producing Silver Moon, the upcoming Norwegian Elkhound foundation female. Another Silver Nessa × Karu litter is planned for later this year, continuing the fusion of:
- Norrland sire lineage
- Finnish reinforcement
- Silver Nova’s maternal intelligence
The pups in this video represent the first chapter of that lineage.
CLOSING THOUGHTS
This Field Notes entry is more than a record of a day in the mountains. It is a snapshot of the Kamia philosophy in action:
- real terrain
- real instinct
- real lineage
- real mentorship
Silver Nessa and Maple are the next generation of the Norrland × Silver Nova architecture. Phoenix is the living bridge between generations. And Takoda’s influence continues to shape the temperament, intelligence, and working ability of the Full Blood and Norwegian lines.
This is preservation — not in theory, but in motion
