Scouting With Elkhounds Before The Hunt

16 Years, Repeat Clients, Two Great Elkhounds

Why buy a dog from a breeder?

Predictability for one thing. That is one of the main reasons for buying a dog from a respected breeder. Predictable genetics, behaviors, traits and instincts. The longer the lineage has been proven, the better the odds of getting the exact same. Thus the reason good breeders have repeat customers. The first dog was great, the second was great, the third and so on.

Generational Norwegian Elkhound Female

Foundation female at Kamia Kennels, Norwegian Elkhound Mia

A good breeder can show you the past dogs in many cases, generations of past dogs. You can literally look back and 2 and 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 generations. Perhaps not all at the same breeder, but between two working breeders easy enough.

At Kamia Kennels we currently are having a litter from Willow in a couple weeks. Her and Karu were mated successfully. These pups will trace back to this female shown, Mia, as they are 5th generation in our program. Proven, successful, balanced pups.

Health is equally as important in choosing a breeder over just random pups. Most breeders can discuss the health of the lineage. Kamia Kennels of course as the Only Preservation Breeder in North America can discuss health more openly than any other breeder. As a Preservation Breeder we are running only lineages that have NO KNOWN HEALTH DEFECTS!

This is profound. A random pup from a random source/shelter operation can not say that. At least not ethically anyway.

Mia has pups still running, yes, go figure that one. Talk about Longevity. I have some of her pups highlight ed on this site. Tegan, Sofi, Tuula and more. Jaegar is a prime example. Although Tegan, Sofi and Tuula are older.

Our breeding program is proven, you can see many generations of pups featured all through our websites, videos, our co-breeders have our lines, it’s evident what quality is still coming down, generation after generation.

Kamia Kennels is still raising as good a dog as we started with. That is the whole goal of a preservation breeder. Raise as good a dog as you started with. Nothing more, nothing less. To say “We want a better dog”, Nonsense. These dogs are thousands of years old, we run the oldest known genetics of the breed, these dogs are flawless. What would we want to mess with that proven history for, NOT. We want to preserve exactly the dog that was there 100, 200, 300 years ago. Same dog, same result, same proven healthy, instinct rich, flawless companion.

Mia was a perfect representation of a flawless Norwegian Elkhound. Her offspring are all flawless representations of the same.

We are proud of the pups coming from Willow. We are also very proud of our co-breeders, the dedication they have to producing the finest pups anywhere is so awesome. Please visit all our co-breeders

These little rascals soon to be born are going to be just like Mia, a flawless, healthy, instinct rich companion hiking, hunting family Norwegian Elkhound. Contact us about a pup from this upcoming litter.
