FIELD NOTES — THE DYNASTY NORWEGIAN FEMALES

Eight Full Blood Elkhounds Working Off‑Leash in Remote Mountain Terrain

Kamia Kennels – Field Notes Series

The remote mountain country north of Grand Forks has always been the proving ground for our working Norwegian Elkhounds. It is where instinct is revealed, where temperament is tested, and where the deep ancestral memory of the northern hunting dog rises to the surface. Years ago, in a stretch of rugged terrain far from roads, fences, or human noise, eight Dynasty Norwegian females demonstrated the full expression of the working Elkhound mind.

These were not pets on a hike. These were elite, multi‑generation working females moving as a coordinated, instinctive unit — off leash, in vast wilderness, with no commands required.

This Field Notes entry documents that moment and explains why these females became the cornerstone of the Kamia maternal dynasty.

THE EIGHT DYNASTY FEMALES

Tora – Tekla – Kai – Tuva – Luna – Phoenix – Vida – Silver Nova

Each of these females represents a foundational branch of the Kamia Norwegian Elkhound maternal tree. Their daughters, granddaughters, and great‑granddaughters form the backbone of today’s Full Blood Elkhound program.

What made this group extraordinary was not simply their pedigree — it was their shared instinctive operating system:

  • Return instinct Every female checked back in at natural intervals without being called.
  • Wait instinct When the terrain required a pause, they stopped and held position until the handler advanced.
  • Range instinct They worked at the correct distance — not underfoot, not out of sight, but in the optimal working radius.
  • Group cohesion Eight independent-minded working females moved as a synchronized team.
  • Environmental awareness They read terrain, wind, wildlife sign, and handler movement with precision.

These instincts are not trained. They are inherited — passed from mother to daughter, generation after generation.

THE LOCATION: REMOTE, WILD, AND UNFORGIVING

This was not a groomed trail or a controlled environment. The terrain included:

  • steep shale faces
  • dense timber pockets
  • open ridgelines
  • deep draws with shifting wind
  • wildlife-rich habitat

In this environment, a dog without instinct becomes a liability. A dog with true Elkhound instinct becomes a partner.

The Dynasty females showed exactly why the Norwegian Elkhound was historically trusted in the most demanding northern landscapes.

WHY THIS MOMENT MATTERS TODAY

Many years have passed since that field session, but its impact is still felt in the Kamia program.

1. These females became the maternal dynasties

Their descendants — including Varja, Revna, Nyra, and many others — carry the same off‑leash intelligence and terrain-reading ability.

2. They set the standard for Full Blood temperament

Every Full Blood female today is evaluated against the instincts demonstrated by this group.

3. They validated the preservation direction

This moment confirmed that the working Norwegian Elkhound instincts were intact and could be preserved through careful, multi‑generation breeding.

4. They shaped the Kamia client experience

Families today enjoy dogs with the same natural return, range, and off‑leash reliability that these eight females displayed.

THE LEGACY OF TEKLA AND HER LINE

Among the eight, Tekla stands out for her lasting influence. Though she has passed on, her daughter Varja

, granddaughter Revna, and great‑granddaughter Nyra continue her line with remarkable consistency.

This is the power of a true working maternal dynasty — instinct does not fade; it compounds.

LEGACY FEMALES OF THE DYNASTY OUTING

How the Eight Norwegian Females Continue to Shape the Full Blood Program Today

TORA — The Oldest Female on the Mountain, and the Root of a Living Line

Tora was the senior female on this remote‑terrain outing, and her legacy still runs strong today. The newest Full Blood litter from Kayley traces directly back through Kayley → Rita → Kai → Tora — a clean, unbroken maternal chain that begins with one of the most instinctive Norwegian females ever to work these mountains.

This means Murdock, Larsen, and Nate’s Girl — the three Full Blood pups from the ARCO × Kayley litter — all carry Tora’s influence through Kai. Their range instinct, their calm terrain awareness, and their natural return behavior are not accidents. They are Tora’s inheritance, alive and visible four generations later.

Tora’s line is one of the clearest demonstrations of how a single working female can shape the temperament of an entire branch of the Full Blood program.

VIDA — The Powerhouse Dam Behind the First Full Blood Litter Born in the USA

Vida was also on this mountain outing, moving with the same confident, terrain‑reading intelligence that defined her line. Her daughter Vaeda recently produced a Full Blood litter in Montana — the first Full Blood Elkhound litter ever born in the United States.

From that historic litter, Nesse was retained to carry the line forward. Nesse represents the next generation of Vida’s working intelligence, and she is already demonstrating the same early maturity and environmental awareness that made Vida such a reliable mountain female.

Vida → Vaeda → Nesse Three generations of working Norwegian females — all descending from this single outing.

SILVER NOVA — The Matriarch Behind Silver Nessa and the Upcoming Foundation Female

Silver Nova was one of the youngest females on this outing, but her impact has been profound. Her daughter Silver Nessa inherited Nova’s sharp mind, her clean structure, and her remarkable off‑leash reliability.

Silver Nessa was mated to Karu, and from that pairing came Silver Moon — the upcoming Norwegian Elkhound foundation female for the Kamia program. Silver Moon represents the fusion of:

  • Silver Nova’s maternal intelligence
  • Silver Nessa’s structural correctness
  • Karu’s Finnish reinforcement

This is a lineage built on clarity, instinct, and multi‑generation consistency — all rooted in Silver Nova’s presence on this mountain day.

LUNA — The Quiet Matriarch Behind Revna, Nyra, and Riatta

Luna was also on this outing, moving with the calm, centered intelligence that defined her entire maternal branch. She is the mother of Revna and the grandmother of Nyra, two of the most important Full Blood females in the program today.

But Luna’s influence extends even further. She is also the mother of Riatta, who is featured prominently in the upcoming litter plans. Riatta carries Luna’s steadiness, her terrain awareness, and her deep Norrland intuition — traits that continue to anchor the Full Blood maternal architecture.

Luna’s daughters and granddaughters are now among the most reliable working females in the Kamia program, and all of them trace back to this single field outing.

PHOENIX — The Mentor, the Teacher, the Instinct Carrier

Phoenix was on this outing as well, demonstrating the same confident, forward‑thinking working style that made her one of the most reliable females in the Kamia dynasty. Her legacy is not only genetic — it is behavioral.

Recently, Phoenix spent time in Montana mentoring and training Nesse, helping shape the next generation of Vida’s line. This is the living expression of the Kamia philosophy: older working females passing instinctive knowledge to younger ones, just as it has always been in northern working dog culture.

Phoenix’s influence is both maternal and cultural — a rare combination that strengthens the entire program.

Kai — The Maternal lineage brought down through Tora and Bram

Kai was on the hike as she had been on hundreds of hikes before, she as well as the rest had covered thousands of miles off leash with me. Kai has placed off spring into the Kamia program that are almost unrivaled in the world. Rita is a daughter of Kai, Rita has produced incredible litters of Norwegian Elkhounds with one of her litters the record 11 Norwegian Elkhound pups in Montana.

The stunning Lil Griz is a daughter of Rita, Grand daughter of Kai, Lil Griz is an example of excellence in every aspect and will be having future Norwegian Elkhound and Full Blood litters. She is in Montana with Linda, our co-breeder.

Kai produced Letta, who has also placed a great deal of incredible Elkhounds into the program and the Granddaughters of Kai and Great Granddaughters shape the future.

Tuva – The Twin To Tekla – Her Lineage Continues Today

Tuva was front and center on the hike as one of the most personable and handler focused of the entire group. She was one of the most complete and focused handler Elkhounds in the world. Her features, structure, behavior and attitude was literally impossible to match. She is a legend. She is currently with our co-breeder in Arizona with her daughter Tiera, who will continue the lineage. Tuva also is mentoring Tellu, the famous daughter of Posso and Aina, who as well will continue lineage. So the amazing contributions that this group, and we have only scratched the surface, is incredible. There are many more off spring contributing to this from these incredibly gifted females.

THE FULL BLOOD ELKHOUND DIFFERENCE

This Field Notes moment illustrates why the Full Blood Elkhound is not a cosmetic or show‑ring creation. It is a functional northern working dog, shaped by:

  • terrain
  • instinct
  • maternal intelligence
  • multi‑generation selection
  • real‑world evaluation

The eight Dynasty females proved that the original Norwegian Elkhound mind is alive and thriving in the Kamia program.

CLOSING THOUGHTS

This was more than a field session. It was a living demonstration of heritage — a reminder that the Elkhound is at its best when allowed to work in the environment it was designed for.

The Dynasty females showed what is possible when instinct, lineage, and environment align. Their legacy continues in every Full Blood Elkhound we raise today.
