Fast forward to Lil Griz, one of the absolute best Norwegian Elkhound type dogs who will be bringing forth the 6th generation of pups in this preservation effort to re-establish new genetics into the Norwegian Elkhound type, as well as the Swedish Elkhound type. She will be whelping out Full Blood Elkhounds in Montana.

This is a monumental plan and time for Elkhounds in North America as this is the first time Full Bloods have ever been whelped in the USA and literally only a few litters in North America all at Kamia Kennels have been whelped so far.

Our main Co-Breeders, Linda and Darrell in Montana have decades of experience and have been instrumental in getting Griz raised, Linda sat with her when she was born, in fact, she was conceived at Linda’s, she is a Pretty Boy Leif and Rita daughter, and Linda has put a ton of effort into this magnificent female.

Linda has a passion for Norwegian Elkhound types more than anyone I know. She is so focused and knowledgeable about them, the style, body type, behavior and traits. She is super skilled at training and obedience, working knowledge, has hunting skills and uses the dogs to hunt and protect. It’s full circle with Linda and her Elkhounds. Rita is a daughter of of one of the very best Norwegian Elkhound males in the world, Karu. Karu is the Grandfather to Lil Griz.

So it’s fitting that the very first litter to re-establish the new genetics and to introduce the new genetic bloodline into the USA is through Linda and her work with Kamia Kennels. It will be approaching 14 years by the time the litter arrives she has worked with us. A great, great Aunt of the pups coming was the first Elkhound Linda had of the Kamia Kennels Elkhound Bloodlines, tons of work between now and that time frame.

Linda is well aware the loss of genetic material has been too fast, she has witnessed in her decades of experience with the Norwegian Elkhound types the rapid culling based on style versus diversity, she has also saw the old established breeders retire and stop breeding. Entire breeding lines eliminated through concepts that are now known to be incorrect. Genetics that were once plentiful in North America are now almost on the verge of collapse, placing the Norwegian Elkhound type on the endangered list.

Kamia Kennels has as the sole preservation breeder left in North America a huge role to bring new genetics into the breeding pool of Elkhounds. All other breeders still today focus on an elimination of genetic material versus preservation or creation. We can’t seem to get through to people, especially those who support the elimination concept of genetic material to stop supporting that, but more and more folks are now waking up and coming over to give us a hand in this rebirth of the Elkhounds.

Linda and Kamia Kennels, will be the turning point in Elkhound genetic material disappearing by the first litter of Full Bloods, which replenish the genetic base, add new genetics into the pool in history.

One of the magnificent Preservation Bloodline Swedish Elkhounds, Foundation line Elkhounds from the old country will be used with Lil Griz. We have three magnificent males, Posso, an incredible Finnish Born male that would yield some of the greatest pups ever. Posso is full instinct rich big boy, his pups are incredible and he is one of the founding Jamthunds in North America. He was imported to establish both Jamthund bloodline pool, and to help create the Full Blood pool of genetics.

The second choice is none other than Ark, first Jamthund male born in Canada an outstanding one of a kind male Jamthund that has some of the very best background Elkhounds of all time in his background. The extent of excellence or Ark would take weeks to tell. Suffice to say he would be one of the absolute best choices.

Our other option which has huge potential is a son of Ark and Varella, his name is ARCO. This is a stunning big male Jamthund. His mother the famous foundation female, Varella is one of the absolute best females in the world. Full Instinct, generations of Champions, chosen by the Master Breeders of the old country as the foundation female to bring this all together.

So we have yet to decide which male. We are leaning to Posso, but could use ARCO or Ark. We currently have a full blood litter coming from Ark, so it’s time for Posso to step up potentially. We can then utilize both ARCO and Ark on the pups from Lil Griz as they would be unrelated. Opening up the whole addition of genetics back into the Swedish Elkhound types.

So not only does Lil Griz open the door and begin the repopulation of genetic material to the Norwegian Type, because of her Norrland background she opens up the repopulation of genetics to the Swedish Elkhounds.

Kamia Kennels is the only known breeder left with Norrland bloodlines, which in case you didn’t know, was the original bloodline of all types. So Lil Griz as she is full linked to Norrland, combining her to the Foundation lines that go to association start times in Finland, Sweden and Norway we have direct links to the original Elkhound dogs. Fascinating to see it all coming together.

It has taken decades to have all the dogs on site, bloodlines established to carry this project forward, hundreds of thousands of dollars invested in setting all this up, but it’s now coming to fruition. All the Elkhound types will benefit from this work for the entire remainder of history.

Those who get the Full Blood Elkhound pups that we do not hold back are getting a piece of history, a link to a distant past, couple hundred years ago those dogs were all over, now they come out again. Best Elkhounds on the planet are about to come forth in our Full Blood litters. Lil Griz and Karia two of our best female will soon be whelping, Karia already bred.
